FEATURES SPECIAL GUESTS BOBBY BARE, ELIZABETH COOK, JAMEY JOHNSON AND OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW

Back At The Quonset Hut, the new studio album from renowned musician and performer Chuck Mead, will be released February 28 on Ramseur Records. Named after the legendary studio in which it was recorded, the album features versions of twelve classic country songs and includes special guest appearances by Bobby Bare, Elizabeth Cook, Jamey Johnson and Old Crow Medicine Show as well members of Nashville’s original “A” Team (Harold Bradley, Hargus “Pig” Robbins, Bob Moore and Buddy Spicher). In addition to the album, a documentary of the recording process will also be released in February. A trailer of the film is available to view here.

The Quonset Hut (also known as Bradley Film & Recording Studios) was Nashville’s first music studio in the neighborhood that eventually became known as “Music Row.” Countless world-renowned artists recorded at the studio during its heyday including, Ray Price, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Tammy Wynette, Simon & Garfunkel, Roger Miller, Patsy Cline, Clyde McPhatter, Gene Pitney, Bob Dylan, George Jones and Johnny Horton, among many others. After closing in 1982, the studio went unused until Mike Curb donated money to turn it back into a studio and place of learning, by placing it in the hands of Belmont University’s music program. On making the album, Mead comments, “I wanted to make the record the old way, with all the musicians playing together in one room so it’s a musical performance instead of piecemeal recording. We decided it would be perfect to record my classic country record at the Hut—the quintessential Nashville studio—with Belmont students helping. I liked the idea because I could record the way I wanted, and at the same time, expose young engineers to a way of recording that maybe they’re not used to. The main thing, though, was to make sure that the record didn’t become a museum piece. A good song is eternal and I wanted to take the eternal spirit of the songs and show how they were still vital today.”

Mead is originally known as a founding member of the Grammy-nominated country outfit, BR5-49, who Vanity Fair asserts, “helped revive the live-music scene on Lower Broad in the mid-1990s by infusing their traditional honky-tonk style with a contemporary, youthful energy.” After partying ways in 2005, Mead went on to release his celebrated 2009 solo album, Journeyman’s Wager, and, most recently has acted as the musical director for the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, Million Dollar Quartet. The production is now running in New York, Chicago and on tour with Broadway Across America.

In celebration of the release, Mead will perform a special release concert at Nashville’s Belcourt Theatre on Tuesday, February 28.

Visit the online shop to order Back at the Quonset Hut.

We have added a new date. Come down to Nashville’s world famous Station Inn on December 8th. I’ll be there with my Grassy Knoll boys and some special guests. It should be a rockin’ time so if you’re in the neighborhood, stop by. That is also the last day for me to reach my money goal on my Kickstarter campaign. as it stands now, I’m almost half way but time’s a wastin’ so please make a pledge now. It makes a excellent Holiday gift and tastes much better than a fruit cake!
